Founder & Chief Executive Officer
James, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, has spent decades in the financial management industry, with specialties in portfolio management, retirement planning, tax planning, education funding and estate planning.
Throughout the years, he’s been honored by “Forbes” and the “Financial Times” as a top advisor.
And for the fifth consecutive year, James was recognized by BARRON’s Magazine as number 16 out of a list of 1,200 of the top financial advisors in the country. A total of 4,000 were considered. The factors included in the rankings were: assets under management, revenue produced for the firm, regulatory record, quality of practice and philanthropic work.
James entered the financial world after earning a bachelor’s degree in finance from Tennessee Technological University and a master’s in business administration from Boston University.
Office Manager
Jennifer Donnelly is a financial industry veteran who entered the business in 1999 and has worked with us for 15 years.
Jennifer holds the following registration through LPL Financial: Series 7, 65, and 24.
As she describes her role, “I’m the problem solver and the ‘Office Mama.’ I try to keep everything moving in a positive direction. I want to make sure that both clients and employees love working with the Global Advisor Group.”
When she’s not working, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family. She has two young girls who are active in travel soccer and horseback riding, so most of their evenings and weekends are spent on the soccer field or at the barn. They also love spending time outdoors, hiking, biking and exploring new places. She also has a hidden talent – “I love to cook and make a really good chili!”

Lone lives in Virginia, but is originally from Sweden, where she studied psychology and business economics. As a wealth manager assistant, she works with different team members and advisors to onboard and transition client accounts while servicing and assisting in the financial planning and management of portfolios.
Lone holds the following licenses: Series 7 Series, 66 VA (all securities registrations are held through LPL Financial.)
Lone finds wealth management an ever-changing field that allows her to constantly challenge herself as she learns and improves professionally.
“It is imperative to connect with the people I work with in order to understand each unique situation and need,” says Lone. “The idea of an ongoing process of assisting the financial advisors in creating, implementing and managing a financial plan was an important factor that inspired me when choosing my career.”
She’s passionate, she says, “about building strong relationships directly with clients, provide advice and see a plan through with them.”
When she’s not working, Lone enjoys travel, watching the Washington Capitals, spending time with my family, listening to and playing music (drums, guitar, and piano), and fine arts. And while she’s no longer a seamstress, as a teenager, she designed and made her own clothing.

Joan became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ because, “I believe in financial planning! Everyone can benefit from growing, protecting & passing assets on to their beneficiaries. When she’s not working, Joan enjoys bicycling and gardening. She also once participated in a fundraising marathon playing the Monopoly board game underwater!
Financial Advisor
Katrina was born in Heerlen, The Netherlands, and raised in Ashburn, LA. She originally set out to be a fashion designer, but after an internship, she says, “I quickly became interested in this field of work. I saw how people oriented it is and loved how unique the business model was.”
Katrina holds the following licenses: Series 7, Series 63, Series 65 (all securities registrations are held through LPL Financial.)
She went to college in Pennsylvania and has a bachelor’s degree in business. As a financial advisor, Katrina works closely with both domestic and international clients. She tends to specialize in retirement planning for clients between ages 50 to 60. She also works closely with international educators living in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates and Athens, Greece.
Katrina says she’s passionate about building relationships. ‘I think what I do best is listening. I listen to clients and try to see what it is they are looking for and how we can help them. I also stay very organized and don’t check something off until it’s completely complete!”
When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, being with her son, being outdoors, going to fun coffee shops and wine bars, going on a run, and decorating/fixing up her house.

Ernesto, from Peru, has visited 104 different countries around the world. He has a keen interest in assisting clients to build a strategy that allows them to control their financial situation, as well as to maintain their financial health and achieve financial goals.
He has a degree in Economics and holds the following registrations held through LPL Financial: Series 7, Series 63, Series 65.
Ernesto enjoys, “Providing personalized and hands-on guidance to my clients. I also really like working with clients who live in different countries.”
When he’s not working, Ernesto is swimming, and, you guessed it, traveling.
Frank was born in Washington D.C. to Dutch parents and although he’s lived in various countries in South America, Europe and Asia and went to college in the Netherlands, he always ends up back in the D.C. area.
Frank has the following registrations held through LPL: Series, 7, 66 and 24.
As a financial advisor, Frank helps clients plan for both their short-term and long-term goals. These include education expenses and retirement. In addition to meeting with clients to discuss their goals and how to meet them, he educates and answers their questions about investment options and potential risks.
“I enjoy the one-on-one interaction with clients,” he says. “I am passionate about helping clients achieve their long term goals.”
When he’s not working, Frank enjoys long walks with his family and dogs, and enjoys traveling (he speaks fluent Spanish). He’s also an animal lover, with two dogs, a Golden Retriever named Prince and Shih Tzu named Slash and one Umbrella Cockatoo named Rio.
David Miller wants to share his experience in personal financial planning to help people work towards their personal and financial goals. As a wealth manager assistant, he works with high-net-worth clients to manage their wealth and pursue their objectives.
David has the following registrations held through LPL Financial: Series 7, Series 63 Certified Financial Planner (pending experience and granting of).
He holds the following degrees: Master of Science in National Resource Strategy (Financial Services specialty), from the Eisenhower School of the National Defense University, and a Master of Science, Atmospheric Science, from the University of Maryland. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University.
David’s passionate about working with clients on estate planning as well as investment planning.
When he’s not working, David can be found looking for new trails in the Appalachian area to bike and hike with his family and his dog. He also loves to travel and immerse himself in culture. For example, he lived in Hawaii while in the Air Force and learned to sail (he even got a license) and surfed on the north shore of Oahu.
Joe, a citizen of planet Earth, entered the financial advisory field because he wanted to use his mix of mathematical, analytical, and interpersonal skills to help others be more financially cofident regarding their financial future.
Joe holds the following designations/licenses: CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, securities and insurance licenses.
He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees: a bachelor’s degree in math and philosophy from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Illinois.
Joe works with James Barnette to service and develop recommendations for higher net worth local clients.
“My versatility is my strength. I can see the big picture of a client’s portfolio and circumstances, or I can do in-depth analysis of capital gains and losses,” he says. “Or, I can be charming and entertaining – to those who appreciate my particular sense of humor.”
When he’s not working, Joe enjoys the outdoors, including walking and hiking, anything from a casual stroll to a grueling hours-long hike. Indoors, he likes reading, doing puzzles, and especially playing obscure board games like Terraforming Mars.

Julia was adopted from China and raised in Weston, VA and graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree.
As a financial advisor, Julia primarily works with international educators in the Middle East/NESA region, and she’s passionate about, “Educating the international educators on their investments and getting them interested in learning more about their retirement/investments.”
Julia has the following licenses: Series 7, Insurance, Series 63
She’s motivated to educate for the same reason she decided to become a financial advisor: “The family experience of losing a loved one who did not have their financial affairs in order and seeing the good that a financial advisor could do to prevent another family going through that situation.”
When she’s not working, Julia enjoys traveling, bodypump, running, and spending time with her family, friends and her dog.
Administrative Assistant

“The field of personal financial planning, found its way to me,” says Claire. “I stumbled upon the field and am glad that I was introduced to the financial world.”
As an administrative assistant, her role is to support the entire firm in any areas where she’s needed. She supports the organization of client events and engagement, and she also works with various vendors to make sure that everything is running properly and smoothly in the firm.
“I am best at finding solutions to administrative challenges that occur at the firm,” she says. “I am passionate about the duties and expectations of my role. I enjoy seeing the expressions of my fellow colleagues, when I am able to complete tasks that were nearly deemed as impossible or hopeless.”
She studied abroad in the U.K. at the University of Bristol for a semester while getting a degree in health sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University. She’s currently pursuing a master’s degree in public health with a concentration in Health Policy from George Mason University.
When she’s not working or going to school, Claire enjoys doing social activities with friends and family, and anything involving hair styling.
Sr. Client Service Associate
Liz supports operational functions of the accounts, giving guidance to anyone who has a question on operations and speaking with clients.
She has a motorcycle named Archie, and belongs to a riding group that rides with and raises funds for veterans.

Matthew had a great interning experience while working on his bachelor’s degree in finance at the University of Pennsylvania. So great, that he decided he wanted to make financial planning his career.
While he’s working on his licensing, he helps make the jobs of the C team easier. He’s passionate about creating good relationships with people. “I really enjoy reaching out and communicating with the clients, and getting to know them as people, not just clients,” Matthew says.
When he’s not working, Matthew loves golfing and reading, but is most likely watching or listening to Philly sports. He also loves to travel. He studied abroad in Valencia, Spain, and has been to 12 countries, with plans to visit many more.
Janet, as a client services associate, assists in opening and closing accounts, as well as providing support to financial advisors and teams in the office.
When she’s not working, she enjoys bowling, and watching action and mystery movies.
Michael joined Global Advisor Group after interning while getting his degree in quantitative economics.
“I became interested in the markets a couple years ago, so I applied for an internship at James Barnette’s office,” says Michael. “After being offered a chance to come back full-time toward the end of my internship, I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to learn investing and financial planning from such talented individuals”
He’s committed to learning as much as he can about the art and science of investing and financial planning. “I assist a team of talented advisors to create comprehensive financial plans for thier clients where I am able to build my client-relation and financial-planning skills, as well as build upon my investment background.”
When he’s not eagerly learning the complexities of financial planning, Michael can be found working out, reading, and spending time with friends and family. On the weekends he’s in the woods, on the golf course, the local brewery, or at home watching a movie.

Humaira, who speaks a total of four languages, coordinates office activities and operations to help manage efficiency and compliance with company policies, as well as manages agendas and travel arrangements and appointments for upper management
She likes the team aspects of her job. “I like when we collectively come together and find a solution for an issue which ultimately helps me continue my passion of helping others achieve their goals,” Humaira says. “One recent example would be that during a recent transition, we faced many challenges but ultimately we did it and it’s only because we all came in as a team rather than individuals.”
When she’s not working, Humaira puts a high priority on her health, so she’s really passionate about fitness. “I do yoga five times a week and eat healthy. This has helped me stay disciplined, learn what works for me and where I can improve, and keep track of my short and long term fitness goals” She also loves fashion and styling, so she usually styles everyone at family events or weddings.
She’s passionate about helping both coworkers and clients.
When she’s not working, she likes to sing and make clothes.
The daughter of Indian immigrant parents, Manjot was born and raised in Fairfax, VA. She has a background in retirement services and serves as a liaison between our Financial Advisors and the third party companies we partner with. She ensures documents are completed accurately, signed and sent to the correct destination.
Manjot is passionate about helping to lighten the financial advisors’ load by trying to take anything he can off their plate. She’s also, “passionate about living life to the fullest and stopping to look at the view,” he says.
When she’s not working, Manjot likes to spend time in nature with her dog.
Ranbir supports our international team and helps with operational tasks throughout the office. Another facet of his job is organizing detailed records of client accounts and the account opening and funding process.
He has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and is certified in greenhouse management.
When he’s not working, he enjoys painting, basketball and grilling.
He’s also only ever met one person with the same first name. This isn’t much of a mystery, since there are only 436 people in the entire United States named Ranbir, according to mynamestats.com.
